A lovely evening with friends...

My BFFL and her boyfriend came over last night to help my celebrate my birthday and our wedding anniversary (which is today!!). They brought a pizza pie, caesar salad, and birthday cupcakes (red velvet - YUM!) We had great food and great conversation. It was so nice to have actual conversation and discussions with live people! My BFFL though against the exchanging of gifts still bought me the latest Stephanie Meyer's novel, Breaking Dawn. I was so surprised and happy, I had the book on hold at the library for weeks. I can't wait to sink my teeth into it (if you read her books, you get the joke). Plus, she loaned me Tori Spelling's must-read, Stori Telling (love love love Tori and Dean In Love on Oxygen). Her boyfriend got me Everything you need to know for raising a son, ever appropriate. Then they got to bear witness to my husband's anniversary gift to me, that I honestly wish he'd return, but I secretly love. He says he tore up the receipt. Wanna guess what he bought me, when I explicitly told him I just wanted my preggers photo shoot? No guesses? Well, my well-meaning, no concept of practicality, eyes bigger than his wallet, husband bought me a very beautiful and expensive diamond tennis bracelet. His rationale? Once the baby comes, I won't allow him to buy anything, which is partially true. I just don't feel that at 35 and soon to be mother of two, I need to be sporting a tennis bracelet, you know? I feel I don't really deserve something that extravagant until I'm like 40, that's just me. I like the simple treats in life, you know? My hubby hasn't figured that out about me yet. I'm the kind of wife that would have been happy if he secretly checked out our baby registry and ordered the baby furniture, that to me would have made my day or cleaning all of his junk out of the baby's room which I've been asking for a month or bought the digital video camera for us. Most guys have told him, you should count your blessings your wife isn't a jewelry hound or has expensive taste. But that's the misconception, it's not that I don't have expensive taste, I just have it when it's appropriate financially. I'd rather see something that benefits the whole family than just me, weird? I guess. But don't get me wrong, I would still love to have that Coach bag, or those Manolo Bloniks(sp?) or tennis bracelet (wait, I just got that)...just not now with a baby on the way, you know? I'm sure some of you are like "at least your husband thinks you deserve those things". Silly me, right?

Manolo Blahniks, Ms. E. xDD. I distinctly remember, a conversation about that in class. I'm glad you enjoyed your anniversary and as far as your hubby's gift. It's the thought that counts.

Sigh, you're so awesome and nonmaterialistic, Ms. E! :)

Also, just to clarify: you are on complete bedrest until Slinky decides to come out, correct? In other words, you won't be teaching at school this fall because of doctor's orders?
