Thank you Grandma!

I recently got off the phone with my Grandma and she said something that I should not likely forget. She said, "Coming to take care of my granddaughter gave me purpose, and I feel good. Better than I've felt in a while." So who am I to complain about her senility, or her old stories, or her aching bones, or her nagging me to lie back down. She's 84 years old and she made it her mission this weekend to come out here to take care of me, her oldest granddaughter. How blessed am I? I give much props to anyone in the healthcare field that deal with the elderly. The amount of patience you must endure, but all in all it's worth it to spend time with them, because in most cases that's all they have left. And the stories I'll be able to tell my son about the time Great-Grandma came to take care of his mommy to keep him safe. Plus, the best part, the very best part is now I know how to knit, purl, and cast off!! I'm on my way to knitting my son a blanket! My aunt and uncle came over yesterday too to bring dinner and provide some company. My aunt commented this morning that while watching Grandma teach me to knit it was the most concentrated and focused she's seen her in a long time. Our initial lesson lasted 2 hours and she was so happy to show me, it's one of those moments that make a heart happy, you know? I also had a brilliant idea that I just shared with DH. Normally my mother would take my daughter shopping to get me a birthday present, but I just realized how upset she would be to not "get something for mommy". My idea is to have DH take her to Michael's tomorrow after work and have her buy mommy the materials she will need to make her baby brother's blanket. This way she can pick out the yarn and feel she had a part in it. As for Grandma, we're going to a sharing project, where I make some small squares out of the yarn she left me, and my mom with bring those squares to Grandma who will connect them to squares she's making, and voila: Baby Blanket of Love!!
