Circle of Sisters

I'm sitting on the #3 train with Maddy and her cousin and we're on our way to the Jacob Javits Center to experience Circle of Sisters. Back in the day, I used to go all the time with my cousins and recently went back last year.

I plan to try to make it every year. There isn't another venue out there that caters to women of color. From the vendors to the workshops to the food, everything is about us.

I love the Sundays because they have a praise service, workshops led by Hezekiah Walker and other religious icons, a gospel concert, and fashion show. I buy much of my eclectic fashion items from COS, but this is the first time I'm taking Maddy. I want her to see all the beautiful different hues of our women. Their different shapes and sizes, and the array of proud natural beauty.

This year I was blessed with passes and was able to donate to ladies in my high school program, women from my church, and my sorors! I am so excited and I hope my daughter and cousin enjoy it as much as I do!!

That sounds like a great event! I had never heard of Circle of Sisters. I'll look it up. How did your daughter like it?

There you are!!! It was great! My little cousin was way more appreciative and excited than my daughter was. It wasn't until the fashion show that she perked up.

Sigh.
