5 Days Detention For the Teacher's Daughter...

Yup, I'm talking about my not-so darling Maddy. She and 3 of her friends lied big time to the principal about a teacher at school and an 8th grade hall monitor busted them in the lie! I can't even wrap my brain around it. Everyone that I've told had the same reaction:
*blink blink*
Followed by, "She did what? Not Maddy?!"
And then:
*blank stare jaw drop*

It's only the third month of middle school and already she's following behind her friend's insanity. Am I comforted that it wasn't her idea? No. I taught her better than that. To mindlessly follow behind friends, that I was not ready for. Am I thankful it's only detention and not suspension? HELL YEAH!!!

Punishment?
No TV
No PC
No birthday party sleepover this weekend that she was looking forward to (but I'm glad I didn't have to say no b/c I wasn't ready for her to sleep over a strange house yet - feel me?)
No playdates

Yeah, she won't be doing any lying any time soon or it will be ten times worse.

And I probably would have severely hurt this child if Linky wasn't around...lucky girl got spared thanks to baby brother: "no Maddy, no more bad girl. Ok?"

Sigh.

Hi!!! I came across a comment that you made months ago on The Young Mommy Life and decided to visit your blog. Following behind friends and lying to the administration... sigh. I'm currently in grad school and a soon-to-be mental health therapist, and I'm currently completing my internship at a middle school in NYC so I now how tough middle school can be for kids.... she must have really felt like she wanted to be apart of something... sigh.

But as a MOTHER, yea.... I would have been equally disappointed. sigh.

I'm your newest follower from Mommy Delicious (http://momdelicious.blogspot.com) and cannot wait to connect more with you through our writing. I'm always looking for more Chocolate moms to connect with. Wink!

Middle school is the Wild, Wild West. It's where kids 'find themselves' by fitting in with a group/crowd/clique. It must be tough to see your daughter make a bad choice. I like how you turned it around into a teachable moment. I am taking notes.
