Embryology 101

Went to the specialists office tonight for the Embryology class all by myself (hubby worked a double and needed to sleep). Remember when you were about 15 or 16 years old and you walked into your Biology class in high school and didn't know what the hell was going on?? Well, imagine being 34 and having that same feeling! I hate science! We got to see from the lab technician a step by step slide show presentation of the entire IVF process from start to finish (always with a side note that every woman is different). The most interesting part of the entire presentation was the end when the lab tech gave her version of "not only am I a lab technician, I'm also a client", and shared her own IVF experience...seemed a little rehearsed though, but that's just me.

It was hard to sit there alone while about 10 couples sat together holding hands, felt like the odd kid out...were they looking at me wondering why I was there by myself? Did I have a husband? Why is she here? Then I thought that while the class was "informative" how many women forced their husbands to attend? Since most of the information relates to the women anyway, I think hubby would have fallen asleep right after the semen analysis talk.

Oh, yeah, they did have the actual catheder that they use to do the follicle(egg) removal and egg transfer..talk about intimidating!!
